By raising Lazarus from the dead before Your passion,

“I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep.” — John 10:14-15.

The Good Shepherd is one of the earliest iconographic types. The image exemplified philanthropia (the love of mankind) for early Greek Christians. Early versions depict Christ as a young unbearded man carrying a lamb on his shoulders , or in his hands. Here, Christ is depicted bearded, in keeping with the Byzantine Style. — 12″ x 14″ — based on a modern Greek prototype.

This Icon is based on an illuminated manuscript, and depicts Christ with the text of the Lord’s Prayer — Matt. 6:9-13. This icon is a reminder of how we, as Christians, are taught to pray.

When You, O Lord were baptized in the Jordan

The worship of the Trinity was made manifest

For the voice of the Father bore witness to You

And called You His beloved Son.

And the Spirit, in the form of a dove,

Confirmed the truthfulness of His word.

O Christ, our God, You have revealed Yourself

And have enlightened the world, glory to You!

Of old, the river Jordan

Turned back before Elisha’s mantle at Elijah’s ascension.

The waters were parted in two

And the waterway became a dry path.

This is truly a symbol of baptism

By which we pass through this mortal life.

Christ has appeared in the Jordan to sanctify the waters!
