St. Aidan by the hand of Matthew D. Garrett

St. Aidan lived in the 7th century, and was the first Bishop of Lindisfarne, an island off the northeast coast of England. With the spread of the Roman Empire, Christianity was introduced to Britain. As the Empire declined, so did Christianity in Britain. St. Aidan is credited with bringing Christianity back to areas that had reverted to paganism. Through his patience, and humility, St. Aidan won over the Northumbrians and was an example of Christian love, and piety.

His feast day is celebrated on August 31.
